The 2023 Vegetarian Festival, also known as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival (เทศกาลกินเจ / 九皇勝會), will take place from October 14th to October 23rd. Celebrated throughout Thailand, it involves adherents adopting a vegetarian diet for ten days, starting from the eve of the ninth month in the Chinese Lunar calendar for body purification.
The festival primarily takes place in Bangkok’s Chinatown, Yaowarat. Preparations, including the placement of yellow banners and flags, begin about a week before the event.
