Thailand Bicycle Road Rules
 
In Thailand, cyclists must wear helmets, obey traffic laws, ride on the left, use bike lanes, pass on the right with a warning, and maintain a safe distance. They must not ride under the influence, use hand signals for turns, yield to pedestrians, and avoid highways, urban sidewalks, and restricted park areas.

The Canal Adventure

Directions

  1. From Public House, travel north up Sukhumvit Soi 31 to the bend in the road-450 meters.
  2. Follow the road around the bend to the right, and then to the left, and to the right again-650 meters.
  3. At Soi Phetchaburi 38/1, turn left to head north again and go straight to the canat-400 meters.
  4. You will find yourself at 39 Vadhana Pocket Park.
  5. Ride east on the small path which runs all the way along the famous Saen Saep Canal.
  6. You will find yourself at Somdet Saranrat Maneerom Public Park-2 km.
  7. Keep riding east on the south side of the canal till you get to the Klong TanBridge-1km.
  8. You can return to Public House Hotel the same way you came, or you can navigate the streets back using Google Maps.

Notes:

  1. Bicycles are allowed on the canal footpaths. Be careful of people and animals on the footpaths.
  2. There are sections where you will need to hop off the bike to push over obstacles.
  3. There are sections of construction where you might need to cross the canal to continue your ride on the other side.
  4. This ride avoids all major roads. You will only be on small streets with cars for 5 km.
  5. This ride can be as short as 5k each way or much longer if wish to keep going.
  6. Look out for giant water monitor izards. They are not aggressive but very cool looking!

The Tri-Park Adventure

Directions

  1. From Public House, travel south down Sukhumvit Soi 31 to the main Sukhumvit Road-500 meters.
  2. Turn right down Sukhumvit Road to head west towards Asok-650 meters.
  3. Turn left at Asok to head south down Ratchadaphisek Road to the entrance of Old Benchakitti Park-550 meters.
  4. Note: There is a pedestrian overpass bridge to cross the road safely and Old Benchakitti Park is no longer bicycle-friendly.
  5. Ride west across the north side of the old park till you get to the new Benchakitti Forest Park-550 meters.
  6. Ride a loop of Benchakitti Forest Park, sticking to the bike paths in a clockwise direction-3km.
  7. At the north side of this park, you will find access to the elevated walkway known as The Green Mile.
  8. Enjoy zipping over roads and traffic all the way to the famous Lumphini Park-1km.
  9. In Lumphini Park, do a full loop in a counter-clockwise direction-3km.
  10. You can return to Public House Hotel the same way you came.

Notes:

  1. Bicycles are allowed in Benchakitti Forest Park from 6a to 5:30pm.
  2. Bicycles are allowed in Lumphini Park from 10am to 3pm.
  3. This ride puts you in Bangkok road traffic for less than 2 km each way.
  4. This ride can be as short as 10 km each way or much longer the more you explore the park spaces.
