A boutique hotel should be small enough to feel individual and designed well enough to change how the stay feels. Public House is both: 79 rooms and suites in nine categories, from 28 to 83 sqm, in a building reconstructed by 4b Architects Bangkok with interiors by P.H.I. Interior. The design reaches the entry room. The 28 sqm Downtown Room has the same tufted headboard, subway-tiled bathroom and rain shower as the suites, with a 65-inch Smart TV and a Nespresso machine. Downstairs, SWD, OPEN BAR, FORUM and THE PODCAST LOUNGE make the ground floor a place to eat, work and meet rather than a lobby to pass through, and the rooftop pool and gym sit above Sukhumvit. Phrom Phong BTS and the Em District are a 13-minute walk.

Public House suits travellers who want to eat, work and spend some social time at their hotel while using Bangkok as the main attraction. Couples can choose a corner room or terrace; friends and families can compare sleeping arrangements; guests mixing work with a city break can look at FORUM and the suite layouts.

The tradeoffs matter. This is not a resort, the pool and gym are compact, and reaching the BTS involves a walk or a ride. If a large pool, extensive fitness facilities or immediate station access drives your choice, make those requirements explicit in your shortlist. 1. Put your daily route on a map. Decide whether you want a neighbourhood base or a station entrance outside the lobby. Public House is on Sukhumvit 31, not on the BTS doorstep. Review the location and arrival information, allowing for heat, rain and traffic when choosing how to get around.
